Commuter Transit in HRM

On August 31, 2009, the first Metro Express, or MetroX, route from Tantallon to downtown Halifax began operation. Prior to MetroX, commuters in Halifax had to choose between the private automobile, or several privately run commuter shuttles. Until the government VIA Rail cutbacks in 1990 cancelled them, Dayliners, self-propelled train cars, used to run local service to Halifax from Sydney, Yarmouth, Saint John, Edmundston, and Campbellton.
